PrtSc’d the banner from the AWA website.

This Thursday, I will be in Atlanta, GA, attending Anime Weekend Atlanta. AWA is an anime/manga convention and one of the biggest in the United States. In past years, I saw previews to/full-length episodes of fabled Toonami original anime IGPX, the English dub to my favorite series Claymore, and the dark and violent Rin. I saw the first installment of the 20th Century Boys film trilogy. I was at the panel where Cartoon Network representatives announced Toonami’s death while plugging Star Wars: The Clone Wars. I saw a feature-length AMV (aka AMV Hell 3). I also bought lots of stuff and took pictures, so there’s that. And, if you’ve been following me for some time, it was the con where I got those chibi Rei and Asuka plushies in piggy onesies. Because if I didn’t have a piece of Evangelion merchandise that completely missed the point of the series, then I am not a true anime fan in my eye.

From my first post in February 2011.

This year’s con has a nice selection of guests, including Ryo Horikawa (the voice of Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z), Johnny Yong Bosch (Bleach, Eureka Seven, Power Rangers), Trini Nishimura (Luna in Casshern Sins), Ayumi Kino (e-manga Magical Dreamers), Tim Eldred (storyboard artist for Avengers: EMH & Batman: The Brave And The Bold, StarBlazers.com), and visual-kei band heidi. The panels appear to be filled with variety, including those devoted to Japanese religion, a Pokemon vs Digimon debate, a “Fanfic or Fact?” Q&A involving Gundam Wing, two panels devoted to indie game series Touhou Project, and even a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic panel for some strange reason. There will also be the world premiere of the new Mass Effect anime movie, Paragon Lost, along with the dub debuts of Level E and Hellsing Ultimate Volume 5. And I will be there. Tweeting it to the best of my abilities. (more…)

The last episode of Batman: The Brave And The Bold has just aired in Canada, and it featured a rather interesting promo near the end. For those wondering why there would even be a teaser for a show within a episode of a TV series, let me give you a quick description of the episode after the break.

THUNDERCAT’S HO!

A betrayal. A reluctant leader. A journey like no other. A roaring return for a mighty menagerie of animation icons. The Thundercats are back in an all-new animated series that purrs with sensational stories starring favorite characters. The exciting first eight episodes roar into action with the evil Mumm-Ra’s attack on the city of Thundera that destroys the cat civilization, leaving only a band of survivors – Tygra, Panthro, Snarf, Cheetara, Wily Kit and Wily Kat – and young prince Lion-O, the surviving ruler of his people.

As the threats of Mumm-Ra ring in their ears, these determined cats know what they must do: find the Book of Omens, which holds the key to their future. Using his powerful Sword of Omens to achieve “sight beyond sight,” Lion-O guides his friends across the lands, facing vicious foes and making new allies. Prowl with the Thundercats through their all-new adventure series, to the legendary temple that conceals their ancient secrets!

Hey guys, today I got a very special email from Turner Broadcasting about this year’s Cartoon Network upfront: now what you are about to see is the official thing from them. This week we’re joined by CountAbyss to discuss Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. We’re starting to call the show the “fashionably late cartoon podcast” for obvious reasons. This is the first episode which has a short cut for streaming on Toon Radio as well as a long version for download. Dragonpiece and I recorded an extended news segment for this episode because we ended up delaying the release of this episode because some of the news was out of date. It was recorded before the Planet Sheen episode while the extra news was recorded a few weeks after. We did this to stay up to date with the news and as long as we release an episode the week we record it, that should always be the case in the future. Except for this one because now it’s a week late but the news is still plenty new. As always we hope you enjoy this week’s episode of Not Another Old Cartoon Podcast and hope that it wont be the “fashionably late cartoon podcast” for much longer.

In this episode Dragonpiece and I get you caught up on the latest animation news and then we head right into a discussion of Planet Sheen. If we learned anything from recording this episode it’s, we are better off with at least three critics and Dragonpiece and I need to do a better job checking our facts and by that I mean we need to check our facts period (you can see our mistakes after the jump). As always we hope you enjoy this week’s episode of Not Another Old Cartoon Podcast
