Today I’d like to talk about one of my favorite games, Little Big Planet and the 2009 movie, 9. Expect this to be about characters you might not know but that’s why we have blogs ya’ know. Let me tell you about Little Big Planet. Little Big Planet is a puzzle platforming game for the Playstation 3 created by Media Molecule and revolves around the player’s control of a small character, known as a Sackboy or Sackgirl. Media Molecule already have pre-built levels for you to explore in story mode, you can also create levels and costumes for your Sackboy/Sackgirl. The game is all about creativity, platforming, and is pretty much combined into a tagline: “Play. Create. Share”. Long time, no see everyone. This is ToonFaithful on “The Scientist and the Sackboy”.
Now onto 9. 9 was first a short directed by Shane Acker in 2005. Tim Burton was so impressed by its artistic vision that he went on to produce a feature-length adaptation called 9. Plot Synopsis: The Scientist created the B.R.A.I.N. (or the Fabrication Machine) for peaceful purposes. However, the “Leader of Mankind” took control of the machine and used it to wage war on other humans. Lacking a soul, the machine was corrupted and turned on mankind, wiping them out. The Scientist constructed nine rag doll-like homunculi, or “creations,” in order to ensure some form of life would carry on, and created a Talisman called “Stitchpunk” which could be used to destroy the Fabrication Machine. The Scientist died animating his final creation, 9.
First I want to say that I have not seen 9 yet so I’m gonna give this a try. Similarities? Sackboy and 9’s appearance. Their clothing is fabric. Actually, like told in the plot synopsis, the fabrication machine is one of the main things that is pointed out in 9. In Little Big Planet? Eh, most of the time the narrator will mention the Sackboy/Sackgirl’s default attire is fabric but that’s it. In 9 however the Fabrication Machine is needed to carry on life. Next is their traits. Sackboy and 9 both love adventures. If it’s to die or not, they both love adventuring. Action, it’s kind of obvious that action is in both of them.
Fun? For the Sackboys, yes, it is fun to be a Sackboy and venture through user-created levels! For 9 and the rag-dolls? Heck no! Running away from an evil creature isn’t fun. You know what, I’d love to see Little Big Planet made into a movie. The Sackboys talking? No way, all it needs is the elements from the game and their awesome music. I would have had a lot to say about 9 but since I haven’t my thoughts decreased. It looks like a fun movie though and you guys should check it out, I know I would if I had the opportunity! Also, be sure to pre-0rder the best puzzle platforming video-game for the Playstation 3, Little Big Planet 2! Catch you later folks, ToonFaithful is out.
