“Superbad. Superdad.”

Hey guys, ToonFaithful here giving you another Scratch Pad post, well a review, a review of a movie I wasn’t expecting much of. The movie is called Despicable Me. Despicable Me is about a criminal mastermind named Gru who uses a trio of orphan girls as pawns for a great scheme, he then finds himself profoundly changed by the growing love between them. The film stars Steve Carell as Gru, Jason Segal as Vector, Russell Brand as Dr. Nefario, and Miranda Cosgrove as Margo.  Again, I wasn’t really expecting much out of this film and seeing it was a last minute thing because The Last Airbender wasn’t showing at the theater but when I came out of the theater, I was glad I saw this instead of The Last Airbender.

Had my popcorn ready to eat, icee ready to slurp, and showtime, movie began. The beginning of the movie was nice. Having Pharell’s beat was refreshing and Gru poping balloons and shooting people with his freeze ray was….evil. You would be thinking the minions would be right at the beginning but man, it took a while for them to show up, which is good because you don’t want minions in your face the whole movie. So yeah, for the people out there who think this movie is all about the minions, it’s not. After his evil schemes we venture into his lair where his minions are at. At that scene I was like “WHOA!” because it was like a concert in there. Lots and lots of minions!

Jason Segal as Vector.

I thought the plot was good. Steve Carrell did a great job with Gru and QBComics, I didn’t recognize Russell Brand as Dr. Nefario either. He did a great job as well. Everyone did a great job. Anyways, the girls. In the movie the girls are wanting a father then Gru adopts them. Funny thing I noticed about the girls, Margo is like the chief while the other girls, Edith and Agnes are the soldiers. The girls are curious about their father so they accidently went into his lair and found out that he’s a supervillian. Later on during the movie, Gru and the girls get along and go to the amusement park. Just a montage of them riding rollercoasters during that scene. Only had one problem with Gru and the girls, why did Dr. Nefario have to place the girls back into foster care? Gru was only gonna steal the moon and then come back. It wasn’t like he was gonna stay up there the entire time.

The animation was good. It was really vivid and colorful. I really wasn’t expecting to see the film in 3-D but it was great. All in all, this film was great and I recommend it to everyone.
